Academic Integrity:
Students will complete their own work with integrity. This means that students will complete their work independently without any unauthorized assistance (including from others and/or the internet).
Why does it matter? The most important outcome of my class is that you LEARN. Mastering the content requires in depth knowledge, understanding, and experience with the class content. Your work in class is designed to give you the experience so you can gain knowledge and understanding of the material. By failing to do the work independently or seeking outside, unauthorized assistance (including Google), you are robbing yourself of the chance to experience the material and develop your own understanding.
I recognize that students have a lot of pressure. I want you to be successful TOO! If there are any concerns about integrity or completing work, please seek assistance or an extension IN ADVANCE.
All assignments in Google Classroom will be subject to plagiarism detection tools through Google. Google Classroom and Grammarly have tools to assist students in ensuring their work is not plagiarized.
During writing units, class time will be spent learning about plagiarism and its various forms.
Any student with concerns about whether content meets the standards for academic integrity should communicate with Mrs. Finnesand BEFORE the assignment is due. Let’s work together to ensure that your work meets the standards of academic integrity, but more importantly that you are gaining the understanding you need from the material.
Work that does not meet the criteria for integrity is required to be redone on the first offense. This may include completing an alternate (similar) assignment. Subsequent offenses will receive a zero. Home contact will be made for all offenses. Mrs. Finnesand will also meet with the student to help students understand the issues and how to correct them.
Student pledge: I pledge on my honor that I have not given or received any unauthorized assistance on this assignment/assessment. Unauthorized assistance includes copying someone else’s work or giving someone else work to copy, asking (or telling) someone the answer, looking up information online (even if it isn’t copied word for word).
