MMS Student Council

Mission Statement

The Memorial Middle School Student Council will support the interest and involvement in the middle school community by organizing events and activities for the student body. The Student Council will promote school pride and help build a positive school atmosphere. Additionally, the Student Council will encourage effective communication between the student body, faculty, administration, parents and the surrounding community.

Requirements

All members will hold their elected positions for one year. Once elected, students may not be involved in any severe behavioral infractions nor have an on-going pattern of misbehavior. While there is no cumulative grade average requirement, it is mandatory that students will take responsibility to fulfill his/her academic responsibilities by maintaining passing grades while serving as a representative of their classmates. In the event that these requirements and expectations are not met, the faculty advisors will address the issue with the student and develop a plan of action to help remedy the concern.

Expectations

The success of Memorial Middle School’s Student Council depends upon the active engagement and respect for all elected offices. Membership in Memorial’s Student Council is a serious commitment and the demands of membership are significant. Members are expected to conduct themselves in a manner fitting the office at all times.

A council member is expected to:

  1. Fulfill the duties of his or her elected role to the best of his/her abilities.

  2. Display enthusiasm, school spirit, and school pride.

  3. Advocate for student involvement.

  4. Attend and participate in all Student Council events, meetings and report to assigned team; no more than three absences permitted. (If a student is absent during the school day due to illness, or leaves during the school day because he/she is sick, this is considered an excused absence).

  5. Complete routine tasks assigned by the faculty advisors and fellow cabinet members in a timely manner.

  6. Show a display of good character by treating faculty/staff and student body with respect.

  7. No discipline referrals; in or out of school suspension is immediate removal.

  8. Follow all classroom and school policies/procedures/rules.

  9. Stay in good academic standing, which means no grades lower than a C.
