EXPLORING VISUAL ART

This is an introductory course for all high school students (9th-12th grade) to sample a variety of foundational art-making techniques. Students will identify and apply the elements and principles of visual arts and design through media, such as drawing, printmaking, sculpture, painting, and mixed media. There is no prerequisite for this course
DRAWING I

This Level 1 drawing course is open to all high school students (9th-12th grade) who are dedicated to growing and expanding a variety of foundational drawing techniques and are interested in pursuing upper-level studio art classes. Students will identify and apply the elements and principles of visual arts and design through black-and-white media (graphite, ink, charcoal, chalk) and color media (colored pencil, chalk pastel, oil pastel, colored ink, marker, crayon).
DRAWING II

Length: One semester Prerequisite: Drawing I
Students in this Level 2 advanced drawing course will develop their personal drawing style and artistic voice while exploring advanced drawing techniques using a variety of black-and-white media (graphite, ink, charcoal, chalk), color media (colored pencil, chalk pastel, oil pastel, colored ink, marker, crayon) and printmaking. Students are expected to perform at an advanced level to draw various subjects, such as figures, portraits, landscapes, still life, and other observational and imaginative subjects. Students will connect their knowledge to relevant historical and contemporary artists and movements. This course is highly recommended for students who found success in Drawing 1.
CERAMICS I (formerly 3D Design & Construction I)
Course Number: FAA-3050 Credit: 0.5 credit
Required/Elective: Elective Grade Level: Open to grade 10-12
Length: One semester Prerequisite: Exploring Visual Art OR Drawing I
Create 3-dimensional sculptures in plaster, clay, and other media using additive and subtractive techniques. Explore hand built clay construction, wheel thrown pottery and glazing techniques.
CERAMICS II (formerly 3D Design & Construction II)

Length: One semester Prerequisite: Ceramics I
Students in this Level 2 advanced ceramics course will create advanced sculptures and functional forms by expanding their techniques of hand-building clay construction, advanced wheel-throwing, and further exploration of surface design. Students will connect with contemporary and historic ceramic artists to aid in the development of student voice and artistic expression. Students will continue development in the skill of critiquing and presenting work and will build a portfolio that demonstrates personal growth.
PAINTING I

Length: One semester Prerequisite: Exploring Visual Art OR Drawing I
Students in this Level 1 painting course will develop skills to produce original artwork using acrylic and watercolor techniques, such as glazing, paint mixing, impasto, layering, and brush techniques. Students will explore painting styles, color theory, and relevant historical and contemporary artists and movements. This course is highly recommended for students who found success in Drawing I.
PAINTING II

Students in this Level 2 advanced painting course will further explore a range of media and styles, apply color theory, develop successful compositions, and express themselves through original artwork and chosen themes through building a portfolio that demonstrates personal growth. Students will connect their knowledge to relevant historical and contemporary artists and movements. This course is highly recommended for students who found success in Painting II.
PHOTOGRAPHY I

This Level 1 photography course is open to students in 10-12th grade who are interested in exploring digital camera techniques as a tool for personal expression utilizing a provided professional-grade camera. Students will explore photography concepts, such as the Exposure Triangle (aperture, shutter speed, ISO), depth of field, natural and artificial lighting, composition and the elements and principles of design, portraiture, and basic editing using Adobe Photoshop. Students will utilize the parts and functions of a camera, explore photography careers and the history of photography, and analyze professional photographic images.
PHOTOGRAPHY II

This Level 2 photography course allows students to build on the digital foundations and techniques learned in Photography 1. Students will explore advanced camera functions, lenses, flashes, and experimental techniques. Students will produce artistic compositions, critique and respond to works, learn advanced editing, develop a photographic style and build a photography portfolio.
GRAPHIC DESIGN I

Students in this Level 1 graphic design course will use computers to develop skills using Adobe Illustrator to produce vector graphics, such as original digital illustrations, logos, posters, and stickers. Students will explore design styles, color theory, elements and principles of design, typography, and company branding, while connecting to professionals and trends in the industry. It is recommended that students have intermediate computer skills.
GRAPHIC DESIGN II

Students in this Level 2 advanced graphics course will expand on their knowledge from Graphic Design 1 to explore advanced tools in Adobe design software like Illustrator and Photoshop. Students will further their design skills through projects incorporating advanced illustration, package design and interactive design. This course is highly recommended for students who found success in Graphic Design I.
INTRODUCTION TO ARTS/ A/V TECHNOLOGY & COMMUNICATIONS
Course Number: CTA-3010 Credit: 1.0 credit

Get your start in the Media Industry! Students will learn a variety of software applications, including the Adobe Creative Cloud, as they plan, script, record, and edit their own media arts related projects. In this course students will earn both their Fine Arts credits required for graduation! Intro to Arts and A/V Tech allows students to explore the media arts industry as they create videos, animations, graphic art and other projects. This course is a prerequisite for Digital Animation, Digital Filmmaking, Digital Music, and Broadcast Production.
