Applying for scholarships is more than just filling out paperwork—it's an opportunity to make a positive impression. Follow these guidelines to put your best foot forward.
Don't wait until the last minute. Give yourself plenty of time to gather documents, request recommendations, and proofread your application.
Typed applications are easier to read and look more professional. If a handwritten application is required, write neatly in blue or black ink.
Double-check your spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Ask a parent, teacher, or trusted adult to review your application before submitting it.
Read each scholarship carefully. Submit every required document, answer every question, and pay close attention to page limits and formatting requirements.
Give teachers, employers, or community members at least 2–3 weeks' notice when requesting a recommendation letter. Be respectful of their time and provide any information they may need.
Always thank anyone who writes a recommendation letter or helps you with your application. A handwritten note or a small gift is a thoughtful way to show your appreciation.
Late applications are rarely accepted. Aim to submit your application a few days before the deadline whenever possible.
