The Vandegrift Chess Club is open to people of all skills and grade levels. Our goal is to create a diverse community of casual chess players and provide them with experiences that inspire the pursuit of chess beyond high school.
During PIT on Tuesdays:
Free Play: Grab a chess board and sit down with a friend (or anyone) to play however you want.
Weekly Puzzle: Every meeting, an interesting chess puzzle will be on the board for you to try your skills at solving.
Announcements: Every few meetings we'll announce upcoming events that we are either hosting or participating in: tournaments, meetups, etc.
Party Days: On special occasions or before breaks, we might have a fun day of watching chess-related videos and eating snacks.
Outside of School Hours:
After School Meet Ups: Several times per semester, our club meets after school in the library to hang out together and play longer games and more varied versions of chess, such as Bughouse, which we don't have time to play during PIT. Snacks are also provided, and you're encouraged to bring your friends!
Tournaments: Â We host a few after school tournaments each school year, and they are always advertised so you won't miss the opportunity if interested! Also, members who choose to can join the High School Esports League chess tournaments for fun and for scholarship prizes. Further information on any in person or club based tournaments will be found during PIT meetings, on the Remind, and on our Discord Server.
