XYY0620 YEARBOOK JOURNALISM
Ewa Makai's national award-winning yearbook program is designed as a business, in which students engage in project-based learning to produce a creative, innovative yearbook which records memories and events throughout the year, and tells the stories of the people at our school. This course has two primary objectives: 1) to teach students the skills required to create the book and 2) to produce a book which reflects journalistic standards. This course will sharpen students’ thinking and expression, widen their experience with people and communication, provide an environment for self-directed learning, and give them confidence in their ability to see their creative ideas to completion. Throughout the process, students gain useful, real world skills in time management, creativity, marketing, leadership, and teamwork.
As students in this course have the important responsibility of producing a final published product that the entire community will see, successful yearbook staff members have a high level of commitment and dedication towards meeting time requirements and producing high-quality work.
