What is WHS Early College?
WHS Early College is a partnership between Hawaii State Department of Education (HIDOE) and University of Hawaii (UH) System providing high school students the opportunity to earn high school and college credits, while in high school

Dual credit: Students earn both high school and college credit simultaneously
Increases college and career readiness amongst lower income, first generation college goers, English language learners, and Native Hawaiian students
Where does WHS Early College take place?
WHS Early College is located on WHS campus. Courses may vary in modality, either in person (Kauai Community College instructors come to campus in person), virtual synchronously, and online asynchronously.
When does WHS Early College take place?
WHS Early College courses are offered during our normal school day, built into a student's schedule. (KCC lab courses may take place on weekends/after school, field trips to a variety of off campus locations). Courses are usually M/W or T/R. Students are placed in a classroom with a WHS monitoring teacher for the semester, KCC instructor comes to class/meets online twice (or 3 times) a week.
How much does an Early College course cost?
WHS Early College courses offered on campus are free to WHS students. Students may need to pay for textbooks, other expenses. There is a $40 fee if a student withdraws or fails a course.
Who can take an Early College course?
Students taking Early College need to be highly independent and self-directed learners with an internal drive to take on a college course. . Students are screened academically and counseled if they are ready to take a college course.
