Restitution Policies

WE are Responsible, Respectful and Caring with books, equipment and supplies.

Overdue / Lost Books

Borrowing will be suspended until overdue books are returned or replacement/restitution is received for lost or damaged books.

Hawaii Revised Statutes: AdminRules57“Any pupil found to be responsible for loss, destruction, breakage, or damage to school books, which shall include library and textbooks, shall make restitution to the school in any manner, including the payment by the pupil or the pupil’s parents of the actual replacement costs.”

Restitution for a damaged or lost book may be resolved with replacement* of the same book, in the same format (hardcover or paperback) instead of payment. Pre-approval, by the librarian, required.

* This is the preferred resolution;  we like to keep books available for our readers to borrow.
