Family Literacy Night

Tuesday, May 13

5:30 - 6:30 p.m.

Read to Me International Virtual Family Literacy Night on big screen.

Join us in the Waiahole Elementary library or click here to register and attend from home. All attendees who register receive a print copy of the featured book each month.

ʻOhana Night at the Library

Waiahole Elementary library will have evening hours for families on the second Tuesday of each month. The library will be open from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. for you to:

  • read together,

  • borrow and return books,

  • use computers to log reading minutes,

  • do research on school or personal projects,

  • get homework help, or

  • talk story about books and reading.


Tuesday, August 12 : Get Into the Library

Bring your phone and connect to wifi to download and install the library apps. Learn the library basics, including:

  • how to find books in the library

  • when and how to borrow and return books

  • how to borrow and read books in Sora

  • how to find the use the databases

  • how to log books and minutes to earn badges and prizes

See the work our students have done to showcase their learning about Waiāhole and Hawaiʻi History. Students in Grades 4-6 with winning entries are eligible to continue to the Windward District History Day competition in February.  The State level competition is for winners at the District level and is held in late spring.

Sixth graders are in the Junior division and do not compete against 4-5th graders, who are in the Youth division. All state level winners receive cash prizes, but only Junior and Senior (high school) divisions are eligible to advance to the National Competition in Washington D.C. in June.

Extra time to print your graphs, use paper cutters and glue, and get your data points on display!

Tuesday, February 10 :  Leo Festival ʻOhana Hoʻike

Students will showcase their oral communication skills with readings, recitations, and short plays.
