Preparation programs seeking to place candidates in a Hawai’i Department of Education (Department) school or office must complete an Affiliation Agreement (AA) contract. The AA confirms that a program is approved to work with the Department to place candidates seeking practicum experience. Candidates must clear a Department employee background check and Harm to Student Registry before placement. Please refer to the left menu bar for additional information.

The AA does not apply to:
Department employees enrolled in a preparation program;
Public Charter School settings; and
Non-United States citizen candidates or programs.
Types of programs:
Educator Program: Teacher, School Counselor, School Librarian
Non-Educator Program: Speech-Language Pathologist, Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, Social Worker, Nurse, Dietician
DISCLAIMER
The Hawaii Department of Education (HIDOE) policies extend to all preparation programs that wish to place a student practicum and/or intern candidate in a HIDOE setting. Out-of-state institutions must also be in compliance with the Hawaii Postsecondary Education Authorization Program. Teacher, School Counselor, and School Librarian preparation programs are responsible for accurately informing their candidates of licensure requirements in Hawaii.
