CHW0600 SOCIAL STUDIES GRADE 6
This year long course covers the beginning of man to 1500 C.E. and focuses on the historical, cultural, and political perspectives of various world societies. Students engage in using the tools and methods of various social scientists to inquire and examine diversity, commonalities, dynamics, and interactions of cultures past and contemporary.
CHR0710 INTEGRATED SOCIAL STUDIES GRADE 7
This first semester course engages students in deep historical thinking about the evolution of the historic, economic, political, social, and cultural institutions of the Hawaiian Kingdom. Students will critically examine the people and events of that era. This second semester course engages students in historical thinking about contemporary issues (including social, political, geographic, cultural, and economic) faced by Hawaii and other nations/territories in Polynesia, Melanesia, and Micronesia. Students will examine the diversity and commonalities of the Pacific, the impact of contact with other nations, and the issues, challenges, and decisions facing these nations and territories. Students are actively engaged in decision-making and problem-solving.
CHU0800 SOCIAL STUDIES GRADE 8
This year long course engages students with in-depth historical inquiry focusing on the people, ideas, and events that have shaped and continue to shape our nation. It allows students to examine our history through multiple perspectives and to develop empathy, interpretations, and self-knowledge for a deep understanding of American society. It develops a historical perspective for examining our nation’s history through the period of reconstruction. Students will examine, in-depth, the philosophical and historical foundations of America through themes such as immigration; settlement, conflict, and democratic principles (such as justice, equality, and independence).
