A: Yes. Correct and consistent mask use is a core essential strategy to help prevent and slow the spread of COVID-19 in schools and the community. Despite guidance referring to optional masking when in outdoor settings, KMS maintains a universal masking policy.
A: The Hawaii Department of Education guidelines recommend physical distancing in classrooms to the greatest extent possible where mask use is universal. Because mask use while eating or drinking is not possible, students will be distanced (6) six feet to the extent possible at mealtimes.
A: If there is a confirmed case of COVID-19 on a school campus, decisions about closing school facilities will be communicated with parents and the school community. In the event of a long-term school closure, KMS may shift to a distance learning format.
A: KMS plans to resume sports this year, following all Department of Health guidelines. More information will be shared at a later date.
A: Kaimuki Middle students will attend school in person for SY 2021-22. Generally, distance learning will not be available for students, with the exception of a case with an extraordinary circumstance. Any request due to extenuating circumstances will be addressed by the school administration on a case-by-case basis.
A: Kaimuki Middle School is planning for a transition period to help support all students as they return to school this year. We recognize that there may be academic, social, and emotional challenges for some students as they transition back to school, especially for those who have not physically been on a school campus in over a year. If you or your child should need more personal support as they re-engage with peers, teachers, and the structure of in-person learning, please reach out to his/her counselor or teacher(s).
Wear your school uniform (not PE uniform)
Bring your temporary school ID (you will receive a new one after picture-taking day)
Wear a face mask while on campus
KMS will provide students with a school-issued Chromebook loaner once school begins. No personal student computers from home will be allowed.
Parents and guardians should perform a daily wellness check (see below) at home and to keep any child who has illness symptoms or possible exposure at home. Thank you for helping us keep our school community safe!
