COVID 19 Protocols

Pāhoa High and Intermediate School will be following all current DOE and CDC protocols. HIDOE Covid-19 MEMO


Beginning of Day:


  1. Main Parking Lot Gates will open at 6:45 am for staff. Students and community members may enter campus at 7:00 am.

    1. Masks are required to be worn indoors and will be optional for students and staff when outdoors

    2. If person entering campus does not have a mask, one will be provided to them.

  2. All students and staff must come through one of these entry ways:

    1. the main parking lots (upper campus)

    2. library walkway

    3. elementary walkway

    4. front office

  3. Only designated staff should be on campus prior to 7:15 am.


If someone exhibits symptoms, they should stay home; however, if they should come to school:

    1. If symptoms of illness are present, the person will be asked to leave campus. No access to campus will be provided.

    2. If a student is not well, they will need to stay home.


During the Day

  1. Visitors to campus

    1. No unauthorized visitors to campus will be allowed.

    2. Everyone will need to check in at the front office. Signage will be hung up at various entry points for visitors to enter at the office for screening.

    3. All meetings will be scheduled virtually unless unable to do so.

  2. Student/Staff Develop illness during the day

    1. Students

      1. Students will be sent to the health room to address illness

      2. Staff will work to insure that exposure to other students and staff is minimized

      3. As warranted, custodial staff will come in to disinfect student’s desk and the immediate area surrounding the student.

      4. At the end of each day, custodial staff and room cleaners will disinfect high touch surfaces such as desk tops, student desks, door handles.

        1. During distance learning, this will happen twice per week.

    2. Staff

      1. Staff members will notify the front office and make arrangements to leave campus.

      2. Staff members should work to minimize contact with others once they are feeling unwell.


End of Day Protocols

  1. Immediately following Student release

    1. Leaving Campus

      1. If a student is leaving campus other than by bus, there will be specific areas to wait:

        1. F building Quad - no standing in the front in the stairwell. No standing in the front of the school.

        2. Library - students expected to stand on campus in the walkways, with physical distance

        3. H Building Parking lot will be for parent pick up as to avoid crowding at the front of the school and to provide shelter from rain.

        4. Walking off campus

        5. Buses (tentative depending on bus schedule)

          1. First trip will gather at bus pick up point to be allowed onto the buses with physical distancing in place

          2. Second trip will gather in a designated area - either H building play area or at F building quad to await first trips departure. Once they have left campus, the second group of students will be allowed to gather at the bus pick up area.
