Hi! For those of you who wish to learn a little bit more about me, my name is Mrs. Maria Oka and I am an alumnus of Radford High School (Go Rams!). I attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa and graduated in four years with my Bachelors degree in Mathematics. After spending a year in California, I returned to UH and earned my Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Secondary Education. The 2023-2024 school year marks the 22nd year of my teaching career (where has the time gone?!), having spent all of it here at Radford. I am happy that I have been given the chance to give back to my school and its community.

I've been married for 19 years and we have 2 kids, a daughter and a son, who drive me nuts but make me happy.  I'm also a Soccer Mom! When I'm not busy watching and filming my kids at their soccer games, I love to listen to music, watch Asian dramas, & do crafts.  I also love coffee and boba milk tea, spend a little too much time online, and should probably sleep more, but I'm working on my bad habits.

My personal classroom philosophy is that learning cannot take place unless there is a safe and positive learning environment, therefore, adherence to the class rules is extremely important. I also make sure I am always available to any student that needs help, whether it be before or after school, during recess, or at lunch. My hope is that all of my students will feel comfortable enough during the year to come see me, regardless of the situation.  I also firmly believe that any student can succeed in math with hard work. For some math comes easy, for others it's a struggle, but no matter what, practice always makes a person better. I am always here to help with that constant practice and improvement.

I look forward to working with you this school year and I hope we can make it a successful one!
