Course Description
Taught by a certified Hawaii State Department of Transportation and licensed Hawaii State Department of Education instructor, this is a two-part program which meets the State requirements for all under 18-years old seeking a driver’s license. The two parts are: (a) Classroom phase: 38 hours, including Parent Night meeting; and (b) Behind-the-Wheel phase: six (6) lessons on instruction plus minimum six (6) hours of observation.

Students must pass all Chapter Exams and Final Exam in order to continue with his/her behind-the-wheel lessons.
Course Requirements
Students and parent/legal guardians must attend Parent Night meeting.
Students must pass all nineteen (19) Chapter Exams with a score of 80% or higher.
Students must pass the Final Exam with a score of 80% or higher.
Students must complete all class assignments, projects, etc., assigned by the instructor.
Students must successfully complete six (6) lessons of behind the wheel instruction and minimum of six (6) hours or observation. Return all “In-car Evaluation/Progress Record” forms (Progress Reports) signed by parent/legal guardian to the instructor.
Students must complete fifty (50) hours of supervised driving with a licensed adult 21 years or older; forty (40) hours of day time driving and ten (10) hours of night time driving.
Parent/legal guardian must submit a signed and notarized “Acknowledgment of Practice Driving” form AND a notarized supervised practice driving log to the class instructor. NOTE: If these documents are mailed, it is the parent’s/legal guardian’s and student’s responsibility to ensure documents are received by the class instructor.
Behind-the-Wheel lessons
In six (6) lessons, the following will be covered: developing basic driver actions; driving in light traffic; driving in moderate traffic; developing effective visual search skills; turning around (turnabouts); parking; and, a final assessment. Dates and times of lessons to be arranged with behind-the-wheel instructors.
Upon completion of all the above requirements, students will be issued two (2) notarized completion certificates: Driver Education Student Completion Certificate (yellow) and Behind-the-Wheel Completion Certificate (blue).
Other
This is a Pass/Fail class. No academic credit is given if a student passes the class.
Mandatory attendance for all classes and behind-the-wheel lessons. Student subject to being dropped from the program at the first absence. Please schedule family activities, dental appointments, medical appointments, vacations, etcetera, accordingly.
Two tardies = one absence
All school and classroom rules are in effect for the classroom and behind-the-wheel lessons.
Student subject to being counseled out of the program if he/she interferes with the learning of others or endangers the life of a classmate.
Students are NOT allowed to drive by themselves. If a student is observed driving without an accompanied adult at least 21 years of age and licensed, they will be dropped from the program.

No electronic devices such as cell phones and smart watches will be allowed in the classroom for in-person sessions. All devices will be checked in at the beginning of class and picked up at the end of class.
Virtual classes MUST have working devices with functional cameras and reliable internet connection. Inoperable devices or equipment for a class session will count as an absence.

In order to enroll in the next session, students MUST submit the following:

Completed Application form (link below is NOT the application form, it will be sent out to those on the waitlist)
$10 course fee
Only submit course fee to the main office of Molokai High School when the next session opens up. Enrollment in the program is on first-come, first-served basis.
RS302-A 413 b (1), which reads: "The Department, for the purpose of this section, shall:
(1) set the prerequisites and priorities for enrollment in the course of driver education and training, which shall be open to every resident of the State who is fifteen years and six months of age or older and under nineteen years of age."
