'Iwa Makana is Open!
What is PBIS?
PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Intervention and Support. PBIS is a school-wide, research-based, proactive framework that aims to establish a positive school climate that supports whole-child development. Here at Honouliuli Middle, we continually work toward maintaining a school culture where the Choose Love values remain at the forefront of everything we do.
Part of our PBIS system focuses on ensuring that students are prepared and ready for school daily. Each day that students are able to meet school readiness expectations, they are eligible to earn 1 readiness praise point on MINGA, our PBIS electronic tracking platform. This point is issued in Advisory class. Students are also able to earn other praise points throughout the day when they demonstrate positive behaviors such as the Choose Love ingredients-- Courage, Gratitude, Forgiveness, & Compassion in Action.
Throughout the year, students are given opportunities to spend ther MINGA praise points for various rewards. Students must check the MINGA home feed and listen to the morning PA broadcast for these announcements.
When expectations are not met, students are issued MINGA guidance points, which trigger conversations (and sometimes consequences) with teachers/counselors/administrators to work through these challenges.
Learn more by visiting the MINGA STUDENT PRESENTATION.
UPCOMING EVENTS
This calendar only reflects PBIS events + Minga related opportunities.
For the school wide public calendar, please refer to our HMS homepage (click on the Calendar button at the bottom of the page).
By this point in the school year, many of our students have earned a hefty amount of Minga praise points for the positive choices they make everyday! Fundraising efforts and generous donations from community partners like the James & Abigail Campbell Family Foundation have been instrumental in making the tangible rewards and field trip experiences for our students possible. As we close out the year, we are seeking donations to add to the rewards available in 'Iwa Makana (our student store) and the Choose Love Hub (student activity center). These point redemption opportunities are available 3x a week during lunch. We appreciate your consideration of support via our Amazon wishlist or other items listed on our flyer. Thank you for your support!
