The COVID-19 pandemic had forced us to cancel 2 out of 3 Complex 5th Grade Fitness Days in Spring 2020. During this unprecedented crisis, health and physical education teachers have worked creatively to keep students healthy, active and engaged at home. We are now in the Spring of 2021 and while we still can't gather and enjoy our fitness fun all together, we have found a creative way to continue this annual event.
This year's event is virtual, allowing schools to be creative while participating within safety guidelines. 5th grade classes can choose any number of events and can complete it as a class during school or students can also participate at home with their families.
Kaiser Permanente has a been continued sponsor and supporter of the various complex 5th Grade Fitness Day events since 2015 by providing healthy snacks to all participants and volunteers. Instead of delivering healthy snacks to the 5th graders at each school, a recess equipment pack will be sent to each school. Please use this pack to continue to encourage physical activity daily. Thank you Kaiser Permanente!
Now I hope you all are ready for some fitness fun! Just like the live Fitness Days, PE teachers from various elementary, middle and high schools facilitate the events. This year, they have created videos to demonstrate each event. All events require little to no equipment and can be done anywhere. The timer is included on each event page for your convenience. For some friendly competition, a score card is available but not required for participation. Remember to participate with good sportsmanship. Printable certificates are also available.
National Physical Education and Sport Week is May 1 - 7, 2021. Let's celebrate National Physical Education and Sport Week, by participating in our Virtual Fitness Day events during the entire month of May
Thanks to all health and PE teachers, HPE Resource Teachers and Kaiser Permanente who have helped support and put this event together. We look forward to planning next years event and hope we can be all together.
