Directors & Staff

Jalen Baraoidan is the Director of Bands and Choir at Lahainaluna High School. He is a 2017 graduate of Lahainaluna High School, and received his Bachelors of Education in Music from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa in 2021. Mr. Baraoidan has been the music director of Lahainaluna High School since graduating. His responsibilities include teaching/conducting the symphonic band, concert band, jazz band, marching band, and concert choir. 

During his time at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa, he was a clarinetist of the wind ensemble and symphony orchestra, and also part of many chamber groups such as the contemporary music ensemble, performer/composer collab, etc. He has studied clarinet under Mr. Jim Moffitt, associate principal clarinet of the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra, and has studied conducting privately with Dr. Jeffrey Boeckman of the UH Wind Ensemble and Professor Joseph Stepec of the UH Symphony Orchestra. In fall 2019, Mr. Baraoidan was appointed as the librarian for the wind ensemble. During this time, he has taught privately on clarinet and conducting to various students, and has ran clinics with schools on Oahu. He finished off his college career, student teaching with Mr. Scot Kiyonaga of Maui Waena Intermediate Band & Mr. Kerry Wasano of Maui High Band

He has participated in masterclasses on clarinet with Professor David Shifrin of Yale University, and Dr. Helen Goode-Castro of CSU Long Beach & CSU Los Angeles. He has also received instruction on conducting from Dr. Danh Pham of Washington State University Band/Orchestra during the 2022 UH Manoa Conducting Workshop & Dr. David Jacobs of the University of Oregon Orchestra during his residency with the UH Symphony Orchestra.

In addition, he serves as assistant conductor of the Maui Community Band, the Maui Director of the Hawai'i All-State Marching Band, and plays clarinet with the Maui Pops Orchestra.
