Application Process
KHS National Honors Society Application Procedures
Application Procedure:
In late March or early April a complete list of all Sophomores and Juniors with a cumulative weighted GPA of a 3.5 or higher will be compiled for the consideration of membership for the following school year.
Membership is only extended to students during this time of the school year.
To be eligible for selection to membership in this chapter, the candidate must have been in attendance for a period of one semester at Kea’au High School.
The advisor will send an invitation letter and application to each qualifying student.
If interested, the student must complete the entire online application as well as submit a character reference letter.
Character Reference Letters (adult NON relative) are REQUIRED and should be turned in alongside the student application.
Failure to receive a Character Reference Letter will be considered an incomplete application and automatically disqualify students for membership.
ALL APPLICATIONS AND LETTERS MUST BE TYPED AND SUBMITTED TO NHS@KEAAU.K12.HI.US.
*NO LATE OR INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED*
Reviewing Process:
Once the applications are received, the advisor will conceal the names and signatures.
The advisor will then select 5 faculty members on campus.
They will then review each application and grade it according to a rubric provided by National Honor Society.
The rubric is then given to the advisor who will add up the tally marks.
*Membership is awarded to as many students with the earned score that is required for acceptance*
