Academy Mission

To provide 9th graders the opportunity to develop a purposeful sense of direction in life, to excel at the standards and refine their abilities to demonstrate the GLOs.

Academy Vision

At Hilo High School, every 9th grader will be engaged in challenging smaller learning communities and feel a sense of purpose by belonging to a culture of excellence.

The Freshman Academy is a program set up to transition young adults into a high school environment and beyond. We believe that this program will prepare students to excel in their attendance and academics and allow them to complete each grade level and graduate within four years. The program will accomplish these goals by organizing students into teams that will provide students with a supportive environment - academically, socially, and emotionally - which will set them on a path of high school success.

Students transitioning into high school need a solid foundation to help them navigate through the many social, academic, and behavioral expectations placed upon them. The Freshman Academy teachers are committed to the success of our students.
