A: Schools and complex areas may continue to enroll students throughout the current school year if space is available.
Q: What is the process for my child to learn from home?
A: When enrolled, you and your child will get a welcome email with information on how to log in to Canvas (the primary learning management platform) as well as their schedule. Meeting links to each synchronous class can be found on their Canvas courses. Extra support is available during teachers' Office Hours and/or your child can message their teacher through Canvas.
Q: What is a home-base school?
A: This is the students' home school (where they are registered at).

Q: What is a caring adult?
A: A responsible adult who will closely monitor and support their child’s online learning.
Q: What are the responsibilities of the caring adult?
A: Responsibilities for the caring adult can include: assisting with lessons/independent work, checking for understanding, support/encouragement while learning, & communication with teachers. Please refer to this document for more information
Q: Where does my child get their device?
A: Students enrolled in the State Distance Learning Program should get their devices from their home-base school. If a device fails or is lost/stolen, please contact your home-base school immediately.
Q: What is the difference between synchronous & asynchronous learning?
A: Synchronous learning occurs through online collaboration tools that happen in real-time such as a Class for Zoom, Google Meet, or Cisco Webex. Synchronous learning refers to a learning event in which a group of participants is engaged in learning at the same time.
Please check your class schedule for weekly expectations and required synchronous meeting times.
Asynchronous learning occurs through online collaboration tools without real-time interaction such as discussion boards, & blogs. There is no real-time interaction.
Q: Does my child need a HIDOE student Gmail (10DigitStudentID@k12.hi.us) account?

Q: Is this a self-paced program?
A: No
Q: What if my child needs a laptop or hotspot?
A: If a device is needed to access the State Distance Learning Program, please contact statedistancelearning@k12.hi.us. The State Distance Learning Program will be providing devices and hotspots (for WIFI access) for students who are participating in the program. Students are also allowed to use their own personal devices when participating in our program.
Q: What if the State-issued laptop or hotspot is damaged?
A: Please contact statedistancelearning@k12.hi.us regarding any lost or damaged equipment.
