From 1913 to 1972, Maui High School was located at the Hamakuapoko campus in Paia, on the road to Haiku. In 1972, we moved to our current location in Kahului. But prior to the move, Old Maui High was once home to over 1,000. Some students needed to ride the train to school!
Some famous grads of Old Maui High include Patsy Mink (co-author of Title IX) and former mayors Alan Arakawa, Elmer Cravalho and Hannibal Tavares.
To honor the history of "Old Maui High", in 2021, we renamed our library the Hamakuapoko Learning Center.
The Hamakuapoko Learning Center Library is located in building C in the heart of the school campus. It is open from 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. during most school days. We promote an inviting and open environment for reading, research, relaxing and study hall.
Students can check out Chromebooks to use in the library with their school IDs. We also have games and puzzles for students to relax with.
We strongly support information literacy standards via print and online resources. Reading selections are made with teen and staff interests in mind, and we encourage requests for future book orders.
Come visit soon!
