8th Grade Need to Know
Terms to Know:
Promotion, refers to the HIDOE requirements for an 8th grade student to move on to 9th grade.
Graduation, refers to the ceremony organized by the school for students that meet the requirements to participate.
Participation in the 8th grade Graduation will have different requirements in addition to those needed for promotion to 9th grade.
8th Grade Promotion to 9th Grade
The Board of Education recognizes that young adolescence is a critical period in the development and education of students. Middle level students must develop 21st century learning skills and be able to use technological tools. Therefore, all students in grades six, seven and eight shall be required to take language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies and be able to demonstrate their 21st century knowledge and skills.
Students will receive an academic unit for each of the core content courses to be promoted to the next grade level. Successful completion shall be based on academic proficiency on identified benchmarks.
Students in need of credit recovery are encouraged to participate in the Ilima Intermediate School Credit Recovery Program. To initiate enrollment, students should coordinate with their respective grade level counselor.
8th Grade Graduation
Ceremony Requirements
Beginning in school year 2025-2026
'Ilima Intermediate School students must receive an academic unit for each of the four (4) core content courses in 7th and 8th grade, a combination of two (2) academic credits for elective courses and satisfactorily (S) complete advisory requirements in both 7th & 8th grade for participation in the Ilima Intermediate School 8th Grade Graduation Ceremony.
**Students suspended during Quarter 4 will be ineligible to participate in the 8th grade graducation ceremony.**
