FDV0010 BEGINNING DANCEĀ
Designed for students who have little or no prior dance training, this course is an introduction to basic dance movements, emphasizing on learning the basic steps, dance positions, timing to musical rhythms, styling, variations on the basic steps, and formation dancing. We go over from common to a variety of dances from Hip-Hop, Line to Jazz. Students are given the opportunity to learn the beginning skills of dance while improving their execution of techniques, self-confidence performing in front of others and ability to be creative. They will build a foundation to perform popular dance moves to original choreography. The vocabulary of dance includes beats, rhythm, coordination as well as the basic elements of time, space, and force or energy. Every class will begin with a warm-up that includes isolation exercises, body conditioning, and stretches. As part of participation and professionalism, students are required to bring and dress into specific dance attire EVERY CLASS. The attire should consist of a plain black shirt, long pants (jogger, sweats or track pants), socks and shoes or sneakers (no slippers). Student assessment will be determined by a comprehensive evaluation of active participation in all class activities, professionalism (including appropriate attire/uniform and preparedness with required materials), performance execution, class presentations, and the timely submission of written and digital assignments via the Google Classroom platform.
