WHO CAN MAKE A REFERRAL?
- A student/child may refer themselves.
- A teacher may refer a student.
- A school staff can refer a student.
- A parent/guardian may refer their child.
REASONS FOR A REFERRAL
You have concerns about your student/child's:
- Behavior or attitudes towards school.
- Attendance progress.
- Academic progress.
- Interactions with peers at school.
- Personal growth and development.
- Responses to changes in the family that may be impacting their learning at school.
WHEN TO CONSIDER MAKING A REFERRAL
If a student/child needs more support than what the teacher can provide within the learning environment.
When a student is experiencing intense emotions and cannot calm down within a resonable amount of time.
When a student/child requires extra support to address or solve a problem, issues, etc.
BENEFITS FOR REFERRING
Enhances the student's privacy and confidentiality.
Provides students with the opportunity to step away from difficult situations to focus on finding solutions.
Provides the student with one-on-one and/or group assistance to address their needs.
Counseling interventions are tailored to each student's unique needs.
Counseling can help reduce anxiety and pressure on the student.
