Cassidy Munson Memorial Fund
On June 17, 2021 the Marin YMCA community lost a young member of our Y family, Cassidy Munson. Cassidy served many youth and families in our community as a lifeguard and swim instructor for over six years.
To honor her life, Cassidy’s family and the YMCA have created the Cassidy Munson Memorial Fund, dedicated to creating equitable access to water safety programming.
Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death in children ages 1-4 in the United States. The fatal drowning rate of Black children is 3 times higher than that of white children, and also higher for children of color overall. The inequity of access to swimming instruction perpetuates these disparities. The YMCA Safety Around Water program has the capacity to disrupt this inequity by delivering swim lessons and water safety education to underserved communities.
The Cassidy Munson Memorial Fund aims to expand the YMCA’s Safety Around Water program, ensuring that Cassidy’s memory continues to create lasting change in our community.
