This standards-based course is designed for students to strengthen physical movement forms, concepts, principles, and skills through participation in a variety of training and conditioning exercises. Throughout this course, students will build on a wide range of movement forms. Instruction will reintroduce and apply these movement forms in combinations to complete basic fitness routines and activities. The activities may include, but are not limited to: resistance training, aerobic and anaerobic activities, and other activities that contribute to improved cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength and endurance, body composition, and flexibility. In addition, related concepts are introduced that may include: rest and recovery; warm up and cool down; Frequency, Intensity, Time, and Type (FITT) principle; and injury awareness. The development of individual student goals for life-long physical activity and an understanding of the connections between physical activity and the physiological benefits of exercise and healthy living will occur as a result of this course. Key features of this course: introduce, reintroduce, and apply a wide range of movement forms to fitness routines and activities; improve cardiorespiratory health.
