On Tuesday, Frances Kakugawa visited our school and read her poems to us. On Wednesday, we celebrated the 120th day of school by solving the case of the missing project! Today, we painted the mural. We can't wait for the final results!
We've been reading several versions of the Gingerbread Man. After discussing the stories, the students were tasked with three STEM challenges. Challenge 1: Build a boat to save the Gingerbread Man from the little Old Man and Woman. Challenge 2: Build a bridge to save the Gingerbread Man from the fox. Challenge 3: Build a hideout so the fox doesn't see the Gingerbread Man. Ask your child which story was their favorite!
The students are learning that the planet that we live on is covered with oceans, mountains, deserts, and valleys. It’s filled with cities, neighborhoods, farmlands, and people of many different cultures. The study of the Earth’s features and how people are affected by the Earth is called geography. The students were able to choose a landform and create it with Play-Doh!
On Monday, I added students' password cards for iReady and Wonders if you want additional lessons for your child. You'll need to download the iReady app, and for Wonders, use the web address at the bottom of the password card.
Students consider materials from the perspective of how much light they let through. In the Paper Stained Glass activity, they used tissue paper to create a work of art.
Students investigated vibrations as a source of sound effects for movies. In the Be a Sound Effects Artist activity, students used their hands and feet to create a "rainstorm" and then used rulers to create a “boing” sound for a cartoon bouncy ball.
After listening to the story The Pigeon HAS to Go to School! by Mo Willems, students were tasked with creating a school bus to roll the pigeon to school. They learned about wheels and axles before receiving their materials. They were only given four foam balls, two toothpicks, two straw pieces, four linking cubes, tape, and a pigeon cup.
