TMG1011 COLLEGE PREP SKILLS: AVID
This course is designed to prepare students for college preparatory coursework with emphasis on inquiry, writing, organizational and study skills, note-taking and research.
AVID, which stands for Advancement via Individual Determination, is a non-profit college-readiness program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be college and career-ready. AVID is a rigorous academic elective course with a sequential curriculum for grades 6 through 12. Students may elect to continue to be in AVID at the high school level, including James Campbell High School, which is a Demonstration School. The program places special emphasis on fostering a community unit of teamwork and critical thinkers, who build writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading skills. AVID students hone their skills to be successful leaders and role models throughout the school year.
