Konawaena High is starting this school year with several new teachers.

If you had Spanish last year, you might know Mr. Christopher Munjar. This year he is teaching a different subject. Now, Mr. Munjar is the new chemistry teacher for grades nine through 12.

Mr. Munjar said he is inspired to teach here because:  “There is a lot of history to Konawaena. It’s – from what I understand – one of the oldest schools on this side of the island … I’m really honored to be a part of its  history and to help out the new generation, so that they can be the best person they can be when they come out of high school.”

Mr. Munjar added: “I would like my students to know that [they] are my top priority, and that I want all of my students to succeed.”

Three fun facts about Mr. Munjar: he can sing the ABC’s backwards, his favorite animal is a goat, and he is left-handed.

“Konawaena is different from what I expected,” Mr. Munjar said. “This is the official start of my teaching career and I really like the energy here and the unity we have.”

Another new face this year is Jonah Ray Robinson, who teaches English and American literature. Last year, Mr. Robinson was a substitute teacher at Konawaena.

The school interested him because: “The area is closer to where I live [and] I am very fond of kids,” he said.

Mr. Robinson, who moved to Hawaii from Alaska, said he loves the climate, being near the ocean, and the people.

“My goals this year are to create a positive learning environment and empower my students to be better thinkers, writers, and communicators,” he said.

Mr. Robinson likes dark chocolate, coffee, and ice cream. He has two  daughters and a beautiful wife, he said. Three more interesting facts about Mr. Robinson: he likes bees, hiking, and fishing.
