Welcome to Aiea Intermediate School new 7th graders! We want to help you get to know the campus and learn about being a student at ‘Aiea Intermediate School.
This class is to give incoming 7th grade students a preview of what is expected of them as they transition to being a middle schooler at AIS. Some topics that will be covered include: organization tips for managing a full class load, effectively using a student planner, adjusting to 6 periods taught by six different teachers, AIS PRIDE expectations, AIS policies and procedures.
In a weightlifting and healthy activities class, students learn the fundamentals of strength training, focusing on proper form, technique, and safety while lifting weights. The class emphasizes building overall strength, improving endurance, and enhancing flexibility through a combination of weightlifting exercises and functional movements. In addition to lifting, students engage in activities like stretching, mobility work, and cardiovascular exercises to promote overall fitness and well-being. The goal is to develop a well-rounded fitness routine that supports long-term health, injury prevention, and personal progress.
Let's take the summer to enjoy reading and building our literary skills. Students enrolling in this course will practice reading skills, explore literary devices, and hopefully enjoy some writing time which they can choose to share with each other. We are on this Language Arts exploration together!
For students interested in learning basic Japanese Language and Culture. Along with being introduced to basic Japanese reading, writing, conversation, and culture, students will practice writing and identifying Hiragana through repetition, memorization, puzzles, and flash cards. Some Katakana may be introduced as well. Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu!
This course will be combined with the College and Career Readiness class.
Students will use the math skills learned in their previous grade level and learn how to apply them to new math topics that they will see in the curriculum for their upcoming school year.
7th graders will work on targeted 8th grade math skills
8th graders will work on targeted Geometry math skills
Students will complete a diagnostic assessment at the start and end of the program to show their growth during the program.
This course will be combined with the Math Skill Builders class.
Students will research future careers that they are interested in and then choose potential colleges and universities that offer programs that align with their career choice.
Students will look ahead to the academies at Aiea High School to see which academy is best for them and offers the classes that meet the requirements for the colleges and universities they have chosen.
Students will complete their “BIG GOAL” that is their plan to reach their college and career goals and will include necessary components of the application process such as (GPA, SAT/SAT scores, personal essay, letters of recommendation, etc).
In this course students will be engaged in a variety of math applications. Students will review and strengthen various concepts, topics, and real world relevance in mathematics to prepare for middle school math.
In the SPROUTS summer course, you’ll get your hands dirty while discovering how the ahupuaʻa system sustains life from the mountains to the sea. You’ll spend time outdoors learning why this traditional system of land management is so important and how to grow your own plants. This hands-on experience is all about increasing your connection to the ʻāina and understanding your role in its future. By the end of the program, you’ll bring home your own plants—designed to thrive in a yard or on a lanai—so you can continue to care for the land wherever you live!
Get ready to dive into the ocean... No swimming required! In this hands-on course, students will explore the many parts that make up the ocean, from plankton and coral reefs to waves and currents. They’ll investigate real-world issues and see how the ocean affects life on Earth, while building critical thinking, problem-solving, and scientific reasoning skills. Students will learn to think like scientists by asking questions, analyzing evidence, and exploring new ideas. Curiosity is your only requirement, everything else is discovery!
