About Drivers Education:
Driver Education is mandatory for anyone under the age of 18 who wants to receive a provisional driver license at the age of 17. The Driver Education course consists of two sections that students must successfully complete: 1) classroom section will cover the rules of the road, concepts, and fundamentals of becoming a safe and responsible driver and risk management; and 2) Behind The Wheel section -students will drive with a partner and instructor to apply what they learned in the classroom and how to maneuver, handle, and secure the vehicle. The total cost is $10
Course offerings:
Driver Education courses generally are offered two times a school year and are dependent on available funds and staffing. Classes are virtual and capped at 25 students. Student enrollment will be on a first-come, first-served basis and a continuous waitlist is maintained. You will receive an invitation to enroll approximately 1 month before the start of a new class. This email will include: registration application, drivers ed contract, dates and times of classes, date and time of mandatory meeting.
For SY 25-26 Classes are scheduled for the Fall 25 and Summer 26
100% attendance is mandatory for the classroom course. If you are not able to attend all the class dates as listed, do not apply for this course. Students who enroll but miss a class may be dropped and have to reapply for the waitlist. Extenuating circumstances may allow a student to continue the course and complete the missing class date in the next session.
Requirements and Fees:
Students must possess a valid Hawaii Instructional Permit when applying for the course and be under 19 years old. Students and a parent/guardian must attend a virtual mandatory orientation night meeting. The student must attend all classroom classes (100% attendance). A nonrefundable fee of $10.00 is charged for the course.

Q: Can I sign up for Drivers Education at Aiea if student is not enrolled at Aiea?
A: Yes. Driver Education is open to the anyone with a valid Hawaii Instructional Permit, and under 19 years of age, which includes public, private and home-schooled students and graduates.
Q: Can my 50 hours of practice driving start before the class starts?
A: Yes. It is highly recommended that the required 50 hours of practice driving begin as soon as the Instructional Permit is obtained. Parents should keep a log of date, length of practice drive and route traveled as documentation.
Q: What days/ times are classes
A: After school classes are 2x a week either M/W or T/TH 5:30 -7:30pm. Summer Classes are M-TH 1:30 -3:30 pm
Q: Are classes in person?
A: No classes are VIRTUAL except for the FINAL EXAM which will be in person
