The Global Pathways program at Andover High School provides students with a personalized, self-selected series of experiences focused on individual interests where students are supported to explore and connect distinct content areas, with an overarching shared-experience as emerging global citizen-scholars. Our program is in the third year and involves 130 AHS students, grades 10-12.
Along the pathways, and through the lens of a global citizen-scholar, faculty advisors and community mentors guide students, in a cohort of like-minded peers, through the discovery of the connections that link their interests, intellects, and passions. Global Pathways require students to maintain a digital portfolio that documents both their process and the products created, engages service learning opportunities and internships, conduct a capstone research project, and deliver TED-style presentations in front of a large audience of peers, community and industry partners.
Global Scholars are encouraged to travel abroad and experience other cultures through unique and customized trips organized by each individual student. In addition, students are required to take four years of a foreign language, enroll in a variety of global-minded courses, create a Capstone research project and share their stories through both a digital portfolio and variety of community presentations and opportunities.
The vision is for students to work toward mastery in an integrated, hands-on environment designed to facilitate curiosity, care, creativity, and collaborative entrepreneurship through a dynamic global lens. Utilizing local, national, and international resources, students will apply their skills to complex, ill-defined problems in a real-world context, while partnerships with businesses and universities will help students and faculty to forge long-term relationships with professionals in the field.
