Growth Goal
Growth Goal 1:
My goal is to design better lessons in which my students have equal access to the learning. I need to be equitable and equal in a thoughtful manner.
Growth Goal 2:
My goal is to be more prepared and spend more time planning and developing lessons for the betterment of my students.
Growth Goal 3:
My goal is to take and use the knowledge I have gained at the primary level and use it as a scaffold for more learning and apply it to my next educational experience.
To achieve my goals I believe teacher wellness is key.
When thinking of teacher wellness during this year that provided plenty of challenges, I needed to think of ways to balance my personal and professional life. This year there have been plenty of times where I have felt overwhelmed, anxious, overworked, tired, and even stints of depression. I felt work was taking over my life outside of the job and was affecting my personal wellness. I stopped doing things that made me happy because I was either exhausted or did not have enough time. I knew things had to change to I started to create schedule of activities and hobbies that would lower my stress level.
I wanted to do activities that brought enjoyment to my life prior to this year. I decided to make time for my extra-curricular time every day, no matter the circumstances of my professional responsibilities. I thought of the old saying, “I work to live, not live to work”, and needed to remember this.
This is a list of activities to ensure my personal wellness.
· Go to the gym
· Work on my motorcycle
· Surf
· Hike
· Read
· Meditate
· Hang out with friends and family
· Go on weekend adventures
· Seek advice from veteran teachers
· Watch movies
· Golf
These are all things I enjoy doing and was neglecting these activities that bring me happiness. I will explain in my reflection how this worked out.
Advice for new teachers
My advice for new teachers is to find an experienced mentor teacher on campus and become their bestfriend. Pick that teachers brain, talk strategies and lessons. Observe and learn from that mentor teachers and use ideas and techniques that work for you and implement those techniques in your personal teaching style. Do not forget to thank those mentor teachers.
