JUSC's academy program is operated by Sporting Iowa. Academy soccer strengthens 9U-10U players’ technical foundations and prepares them for select soccer. Academy soccer allows players to play with and against players of similar ability and at a level where they will experience the most success and have the most fun playing the sport. It follows a set of player development guidelines that include following a training curriculum, mixing training groups, mixing teams after each playing season, maintaining small roster sizes, mandatory coach education for academy coaches, parent education and most importantly a focus on the individual player, not on the team. Players considering the academy program should exhibit sound technical skills, demonstrate good agility, and possess a high level of focus and concentration. Players born (9U) 8/1/17 - 7/31/18 or (10U) 8/1/16 - 7/31/17 are placed on teams of typically 10-12 players of the same age and gender. Teams are coached by both professional coaches and licensed volunteer coaches.
6-8 game season: Each team plays six 7v7 games managed by licensed volunteer coaches against other local club teams with academy programs within the same age group. Games consist of two 25 minute halves, and are refereed by certified referees.
Players participate in two 75 min training sessions per week over a ten week period delivered by Sporting Iowa's professional coaching staff and assisted by licensed volunteer coaches. Training is age appropriate focused on basic skill development with an emphasis on attacking and defending in pairs.

Returning Fall Academy Players will receive direct invitations to register for the Spring Academy.
*In the Fall only, 9U players born between August 1, 2017, and July 31, 2018, do not need an ID session for the Academy. Families can choose between the Academy and Recreational pathways for their child. An Academy Standards Agreement is required.
NEW players interested in the Academy should register for the Recreational program here During Rec registration process, they should:
a) Select the “Academy Pathway” and sign the academy participation waiver.
b) Choose and Participate in at least one hour of ID Training Session (Rec regisitration required)
**If the evaluated player is a good fit for the Academy program, the club will cancel the Recreational registration, issue full credit, and send an invitation to register for the Academy program.c) Upon receiving an invitation, complete the Academy Registration within 24 hours to secure your spot.
The ID session ensures new players are placed in the most appropriate developmental program. To learn more about the new academy invite-only registration process here. Completion of the Academy Standards Agreement required during the registration for all academy players.
