The New 2021-22 Enigma Club Site: A Work-in-Progress
Add a fun twist to math class with original games invented by the Enigma HS Club for local elementary school students.
Enigma Games are meant to show kids from an early age that math can be:
simple
collaborative
& fun
This is meant to set a good growth mindset towards math in kids early on. In addition, Enigma's original games also reinforce conceptual mathematical understanding for a solid foundation upon which students can build as they progress into more challenging middle and high school math classes.
Enigma Definition: someone or something that is puzzling or difficult to understand
Real-World Enigmas are original math word problems written by members of the Enigma HS Club. Critical thinking elements such as logic, data analysis, and creativity are included to train an open mind capable of thinking outside of the box.
A new Real-World Enigma is posted weekly along with the solution for the previous week's Enigma on our site's "Real-World Enigmas" page (nested under "The Enigma Program").
Real-World Enigmas are created to add another dimension of math to the classroom.
The Enigmas paired with The Enigma Contest are intended to show math's
fluidity
real-world applicability
& prestige
This middle school division of The Enigma Program is meant to be relatable and inclusive to all middle schoolers at all levels in the classroom.
The Enigma Contest, in collaboration with Juneau's middle schools, integrates Real-World Enigmas into the everyday math classroom. Both an individual and school contest, the Enigma Contest is a fun, engaging activity that introduces middle school students to math's fluidity, real-world applicability, and prestige through inter-school competition and surprise prizes and awards.
A new Real-World Enigma is posted on our club's "Real-World Enigmas" page (nested under "The Enigma Program") every week along with the solution for the previous week's Enigma. Teachers can submit point tallies for their classrooms at the end of each month to participate in The Enigma Contest. Accumulative points for leading individuals and schools are then posted on our site monthly, culminating in the award ceremony hosted at TMHS at the end of the school year.
