Dear parents, families and community members, 

Every year the school district is responsible for adopting K-12 educational curriculum for students. The adoption cycles are on a rotating basis with a different subject adopted each year. This year, 2022-2023, is the Math adoption with implementation of the new curriculum in the fall of 2023. The math standards in the state of Oregon were updated in October of 2021. Standards at the K-8 level had very few changes, but the most changes were at the high school level. Due to the number of changes to the standards, the high school team will be postponing their adoption until 2024. 

As part of this process, the state develops a committee and evaluates curriculum from different publishers.  A scoring rubric is used to determine whether instructional materials meet State Board-adopted criteria for high quality instructional materials for K-12 grade.  Out of that process, the state approves a list of adopted curriculum.  From that list, each district adopts from the approved list. 

The Junction City School District has developed a curriculum adoption team to review the state approved materials for adoption.  This team is in the process of meeting regularly to discuss math goals in Junction City,  review virtual materials, view curriculum samples, and meet with publishers. The K-5 team has narrowed the choices to 2 curriculums and the 6-8 team has narrowed the options down to 3 choices.

Cada año, el distrito escolar es responsable de adoptar el currículo educativo K-12 para los estudiantes. Los ciclos de adopción son rotativos y se adopta un tema diferente cada año. Este año, 2022-2023, es la adopción de matemáticas con la implementación del nuevo currículo en el otoño de 2023. Los estándares de matemáticas en el estado de Oregón se actualizaron en octubre de 2021. Los estándares en el nivel K-8 tuvieron muy pocos cambios, pero la mayoría de los cambios fueron a nivel de la escuela preparatoria. Debido a la cantidad de cambios en los estándares, el equipo de la escuela preparatoria pospondrá su adopción hasta 2024.

Como parte de este proceso, el estado desarrolla un comité y evalúa el currículo de diferentes editoriales. Se utiliza una rúbrica de calificación para determinar si los materiales de instrucción cumplen con los criterios adoptados por la Junta Estatal para materiales de instrucción de alta calidad para los grados K-12. Fuera de ese proceso, el estado aprueba una lista de currículo adoptado. De esa lista, cada distrito adopta de la lista aprobada.

El Distrito Escolar de Junction City ha desarrollado un equipo de adopción del currículo para revisar los materiales aprobados por el estado para su adopción. Este equipo está en proceso de reunirse regularmente para discutir las metas de matemáticas en Junction City, revisar materiales virtuales, ver muestras del plan de estudios y reunirse con editores. El equipo K-5 ha reducido las opciones a 4 currículos y el equipo 6-8 ha reducido las opciones a 6 opciones.
