The JCS Pine Hills Academy (K-8) is a program of JCS-Pine Hills Charter School. We are a K-8 small group instruction and home study academy. Small group instruction is offered Monday-Thursday and Friday is a home study day.
During instruction, students participate in hands-on, activity-based Common Core instruction. Our qualified teachers pull from a variety of resources to create meaningful lessons that target both the academic and interest levels of the students.
This program is an excellent fit for students who enjoy working independently as well as collaborating with others. Students are expected to contribute fully to partners/groups and demonstrate learning that meets or exceeds grade-level expectations.
Monday -Thursday: 9:00am-3:00pm
Friday: Home Study Day
*Doors open at 8:45am
{Children must be supervised if you arrive to school before 8:45}
Kindergarten-3rd Grade:
One home room teacher per small classroom and one class per grade for all grades K-3rd.
4th and 5th Grade:
With one class per 4th and 5th grades, students rotate between two teachers. One teacher instructs Language Arts & Social Studies and the other instructs Math & STEaM.
6th, 7th & 8th Grade Middle School:
Students rotate between three teachers for their core subjects and electives. There is one class per grade for 6th, 7th, and 8th.
At JCS PHA, we value the parent-teacher partnership. Teachers and parents partner together in the education of each student. Approximately 70% of student learning occurs on campus and 30% is home study.
On home study days, students complete assignments at home under the direction of a parent. This makes up about 30% of their education, over 50 school days per year. Typically, each home study day is equivalent to 4 hours of work. Home study assignments will be posted on the www.jcsict.com website. A portion of the assignments will be determined by the classroom teacher. The other portion will focus on a special project or learning experience chosen by the student.
Home study assignments are designed to:
Give time to review or go deeper with a concept
Extend lessons that are being taught on campus
Prepare students for upcoming lessons
Provide students a “voice” and “choice” about what they want to learn
Be uniquely personalized and differentiated
Promote family involvement in the learning process
Allow students global access to learning opportunities
Nightly homework is generally limited and may include the following:
Reading for 20-30 minutes
Unfinished work may be sent home for completion
Assignments to support students in learning a new concept
Assignments to re-teach a concept
Please see your child's teacher for grade-level homework specifications.
