Throughout the year...
Students will become better writers by using the five writing structures; Compare and Contrast, Problem & Solution, Chronological-Timeline-Sequential, Descriptive, and Cause and Effect.
Students will also learn to respond to questions from our novels using Textual Evidence.
Students will become stronger writers using the R.A.C.E.S strategy (Restate,Answer,Cite Evidence,Explain how the citation proves your answer, and Summarize) while answering writng prompts from passages.
There will be Four Writing Pieces this year in Fourth Grade
In Module 1: Writing for a Purpose, students will learn how to tell their own stories and share their own opinions in writing and will explore narrative and opinion text structure in the writing of others. The lessons in this unit work together to reinforce fiction text structure knowledge through producing new text and analyzing existing text.
The students will pick a write a story about a personal event in which they learned a lesson. In their stories they will include the following components.
Dialogue - Make sure the characters are speaking and use quotation marks.
Setting with descriptive details (adjectives)
Actions of the characters (Show don't Tell)
Introduction with a hook that grabs the reader's attention
Varied Sentence Structure - Simple, Compound and Complex
Logical Sequence - Make sure the story is written in the right order - Beginning, Middle and End.
Strong Conclusion - Theme - What does the author want the reader to learn from their story
Opinion - Reseearch
