Currently I teach 12th grade Government and Economics as well as 8th grade US History at JMHS.
I began teaching social studies at Jenkintown Middle High School in 2019-2020. At Jenkintown I have taught a range of social studies classes, including:
7th grade World Geography
8th grade US History
11th grade US History
International Relations
Sociology
Contemporary Issues
Prior to becoming a social studies teacher, I earned a Ph.D. in anthropology from Emory University and briefly worked as a legislative correspondent on Capitol Hill. I then spent 6 years working in education research, conducting policy research and evaluation studies in K-12 public schools in Philadelphia. I have taught college courses in education, anthropology, and African American History as an adjunct instructor to graduate students, undergraduates, and community college students, respectively (at Rutgers University, Arcadia University, Emory University, and Delaware County Community College). In 2012-2013, I spent a year as a visiting researcher at the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law studying voter registration modernization, including online voter registration. In 2017 I completed my teacher certification and a Masters in Education from Arcadia University after completing my student teaching experience at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. In 2018, I worked as a museum educator at the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia for six months and then taught 7th grade World Cultures & Geography at AMY Northwest in Philadelphia in 2018-2019.
I have a daughter in college (and a cat who is self-taught). I live nearby in Northwest Philadelphia, where we have lived since 2003. The fall foliage image in my banner was taken (although not by me!) near where I grew up in Massachusetts.
