History

The Mississippi Science Partnership (MSP), a novel collaboration between a state school system, a state university, and a major corporation, was established in the 1990-1991 academic year to support the implementation of improved approaches to the teaching and learning of mathematics and science throughout the State of Mississippi. The MSP strives to bring to Mississippi classrooms at middle school and high schools, ongoing findings from STEM education research, as well as state-of-the-art technologies that can substantially impact the teaching and learning of mathematics and science.

The PLUTO-STEM program model builds on the successes and lessons learned over the last decade through the Mississippi Academy for Science Teaching (Project MAST), MAT-PD, and MARRS OP.

PLUTO-STEM’s proposed goals, objectives, and activities will thus promote the innovation and efficiency mandated for implementation by the 2018 Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards for Science in many public, under-resourced middle and secondary schools.
