the Process
How is the work being done?
In order for this work to benefit the diverse communities within the Tri-Valley, this Needs Assessment uses an equity framework (pictured at right) focused on:
Centering Lived Experience
Taking a Strengths-Based Approach
Using Equitable Data Practices
Building Community Capacity
Why is this work important?
The insights gained from this Needs Assessment will inform the creation of an Implementation Plan – a set of recommendations to improve the delivery of human services in the Tri-Valley. These recommendations will be used by nonprofit organizations, city governments, and county agencies to make decisions about funding, partnerships, and resource allocation.
Who is involved?
To ensure community voice is centered, JSI and the Tri-Valley have created three roles to guide the development of the needs assessment. These include the:
Steering Committee - Representatives from the three cities, Alameda county, local nonprofits, and JSI staff. This committee provides oversight and support to the project, and assists with the distribution of findings.
Eastern Alameda Power and Action Committee (EAPAC) - Community members, service providers, and service recipients. This committee is involved with focus group and interview recruitment, preparation, facilitation, and supports data analysis.
Community Liaison - A member of the Tri-Valley who is deeply involved in the direct provision of human services, has an understanding of the strengths and needs of the community, and has a deep understanding of the historical context of the Tri-Valley.
