The Global Nutrition Cluster was established in 2006 as part of the Humanitarian Reform process, which aimed to improve the effectiveness of humanitarian response programs by ensuring greater predictability, accountability, and partnership. As stated in the GNC 2022–2025 Strategy, the vision of the GNC is that by the end of 2025, the nutritional status of the most vulnerable people is protection in countries at risk of, or with, ongoing situations of fragility. The mission of the GNC is to safeguard and improve the nutritional status of emergency-affected populations by ensuring an appropriate response that is predictable, timely, effective, and at scale.
The GNC is the only inclusive and comprehensive global support platform for supporting nutrition preparedness, response, and recovery in humanitarian emergencies. As a holistic platform, we provide comprehensive Nutrition in Emergencies (NiE) support in coordination, information management (IM), and programming through virtual and in-country services. Strong coordination and technical support in emergencies are vital in reducing duplication of efforts and preventing gaps from forming in service provision so that → the right support can be delivered at the right time to the right people to save the maximum number of lives in emergencies.
The GNC unites, collaborates with, and serves a diverse network of partners to coordinate response efforts and strengthen nutrition programming – ensuring affected and vulnerable populations receive the nutrition support they need during humanitarian emergencies. Collectively, the GNC has more than 50 partners—organizations, groups, and individuals committed to respecting fundamental humanitarian principles, work in nutrition in emergencies, and actively help the GNC fulfill its role and contribute to its work plan.
