My name is Taylor Smith and this is my first year teaching first grade. I am excited to be in first grade and cannot wait to see what adventures we will find this year in the classroom as we learn so many fascinating things. I am married and have one son, Callan. He is brand new to our family and we love him so very much!
In first grade, your student will learn a wide variety of skills that will be building blocks for them throughout their schooling and life. Fluency is a skill on which we focus a lot - reading fluently and adding and subtracting fluently. These are life skills. It is VITAL that you help your student learn to read by reading to them, reading with them, asking them about what they read, and listening to them read out loud. Practice math facts while shopping, waiting on your food in the drive thru, anytime! Learning math facts in first grade lays the foundation for adding and subtracting multiple digits, multiplying and dividing, factoring, and so forth. I am looking forward to this school year, getting to know all these fabulous kiddos, and teaching and learning together.
