The word “Wagyu” (和牛) is a term that literally means “Japanese cattle” and is the name specially given to cattle breeds developed over centuries in Japan. It is famous for its flavor, texture, and intense fat, marbling.
Our product “OMI Beef” is the oldest brand in Japan which has a history dating back over 400 years ago.
During the Edo era (1603-1868), when the consumption of meat was forbidden, miso-marinated beef was sold as the health-curing agent termed “Henpongan” by the Hikone Domain (in the present-day Shiga , prefecture, The birthplace of “Omi Beef”) and was presented to the Edo Shogunate. Omi Beef was served to the samurai who eventually unified Japan and thus brought about the ancient honorable origin of the Omi Beef.

Omi Beef is the end product of rich natural environment of Shiga prefecture. The fertile land also produces Omi rice, which is highly valued by gourmets. This, along with the climate which is relatively mild all year round allows for good cattle feed, which results in quality and flavorful meat associated with Omi Beef.
The principal characteristics of the meat are its tenderness and full-bodied flavor.
Parts such as Top Sirloin, Knuckle and Top Round meat receive frequent accolades for their natural tasting sweetness.
