VOLUNTEER CORNER
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Welcome JPTA families!
This site has all the information you need to become a JPTA volunteer. Please see the Volunteer Application section to print and complete a packet. Return the application to the front office in person or via email (brooke.ratje@jpaultayloracademy.org). To volunteer, you must also have a background check on file. Please see the Background Check section for directions.
After completing the process, contact me so that I may verify you are cleared. This will notify us to look for your background check in the system to complete your file. If you wish to volunteer for a field trip, please give your child's teacher a week's notice before the event you'd like to volunteer for.
*If an event does not require a volunteer application and background check, it will be expressly indicated in emails or a Sign-Up Genius*
Financial assistance for a background check is available. Contact me for instructions before starting the process. We ask that you commit to more than five volunteer hours a school year to be eligible for the assistance.

Walking School Bus - In consultation with LCPS’ Safe Routes to School Program, J. Paul Taylor Academy will have its own Walking School Bus on Tuesday mornings. Students are invited to meet at the Las Cruces Railroad Museum parking lot, 351 N Mesilla St, starting at 7:20 am. The group will begin to walk at 7:35 am. *Please note the earlier start time to ensure the students arrive at school shortly before line up.* Parents are invited to park at the Railroad Museum and walk with the students to JPTA. We would love to have lots of parent volunteers join us! Students will receive a token for every walk they participate in, with the possibility of more incentives in the future.

After-School Program - Volunteers are needed Monday - Friday from 3:15 - 6:00.
The Chess Club also seeks a volunteer on Tuesdays from 3:15 - 4:30.
Running Club - The JPTA Running Club is the perfect way to start every Friday morning (weather permitting) from 7:35 - 7:50. Running Club is led by parents and always looking for volunteers. Join the fun and get some laps in!
2nd-grade families - Mr. Alvarez is looking for classroom volunteers to begin the week of August 29th and beyond. Volunteer needs are as follows:
Writing /Reading: T, W, Th: 8:00-9:45
Math: T, W, Th: 9:50-10:55
Spanish: T, W, Th: 2:30-3:00
Science: W: 12:30-2:00
Class Walks: M/F: 2:10-2:30; T/W/TH: 11:30-11:50
At-Home Help: Items will be sent home with instructions. Items will be returned when complete. (Cutting, Sorting, Prepping)
Please be sure you can make the times you volunteer for, as Mr. Alvarez will plan accordingly.
3rd-grade families - Mr. Kevin is looking for classroom volunteers to join him as in-class teaching assistants this quarter. In particular, help is needed on Wednesday afternoons for science/project time and on Friday toward the end of the day for catch-up time. Volunteers can expect to work directly with students. Volunteers can expect to help students with their critical thinking skills, keeping on task, practical experiments, reading, writing, and digital media on iPads.
PAC and Equity Council - Your input is needed! Please watch for emails reminding you all to join us for meetings.
