I'm Mrs. Bird. I teach AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and AP Physics 1. I've always loved science and enjoy teaching it. Here's a little more about me.
I did science fair projects from 6th - 12th grade. For grades 10 - 12 my projects were part of the agriscience fair competition for the FFA, and I won gold and silver medals. My judges always commented on my passion for my projects. By 11th grade my projects were focused on microorganisms, so I majored in microbiology at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT.
After completing my bachelor's degree my husband and I moved to the DFW area and I began teaching. Over the years I've taught biology, chemistry, physics, microbiology, and some AP and Pre AP versions of these courses. I've also taught science to homeschool students, online English to kids in China, and ballroom dance to adults and children. These diverse experiences make me a skilled, adaptable, and somewhat eccentric teacher.
I'm happily married to my husband who I met through ballroom dance. We have one daughter, Elena, born in May 2024. She keeps us busy, and we are happy being parents.
We also have a dog, Dulce, and a cat, Luna. Together, my husband and I love to do and teach all kinds of social dance (ballroom, club Latin, swing, country, and more!), cook, play video and board games, and travel.
On my own I do a lot of reading, baking, and cooking. I love the works of J. R. R. Tolkien (if Peter Jackson ever does more films about Middle-earth, I'm moving to New Zealand to be an elf extra). Finally, I love dark chocolate. I don't drink tea or coffee, so if you're looking for gift ideas then I suggest chocolate, whiteboard markers (I always need more!), or anything Lord of the Rings themed.
Favorite Color: Red
Favorite Candy: Dark chocolate (straight, covering caramel, wrapped around peanut butter, etc.)
Favorite Drink: Izze drinks, or hot chocolate when it's cold
Family: Me, my husband, my daughter, a dog, and a cat
Hobbies: Cooking (especially Indian food), video games (Skyrim, Tales of the Shire, WoW, Medieval Dynasty, etc.), reading (Tolkien!), and ballroom dance (along with salsa, smooth, rhythm, International Latin, the swing dances, etc.).
Classroom Gift Ideas: I could always use more dry erase markers, tissues, and copy paper.
