My name is James Stuer and I am very excited to be teaching Texas history this year! I am going into my eleventh year of teaching, this being my second year teaching Texas History. I have background in Criminal Justice and non-profit organizations here in the DFW area. I have a BA from the University of Michigan (GO BLUE!). I also have a Master's of Psychology from the University of Phoenix.
I began teaching in 2006 as a high school Spanish teacher. After six years of working in probation and working with adults that had mental health issues, I needed change my mind set and be proactive or to be a positive influence for those who didn’t have a “father figure” in their lives for one reason. Someone to teach the young men to responsible, respectful to their elders, and how they encourage others to change their outlooks. Just recently here at JISD, I found a former student and their spouse (both were former students of mine) still together since 2006 and still remember the words of wisdom that they receive.
For the last year, I took time off to relax from coaching. I have been coaching since 1996 and I started coaching as a pee-wee football coach in Flint, MI. I have coached both boys and girls, in football, volleyball, basketball, and track. Here at Nichols, I will be focused on football, basketball, and track. I still am very passionate about extracurriculars and plan to bring a lot of the same principles and disciplines of athletics into the classroom.
I am not from Joshua originally, but I have been coming or travelling into the Joshua-Cleburne area since I was 19 years old. I fell in love with the area and eventually moved out here into area. We will be doing some hard work this year, but I am excited to learn more about my students and get started!!
