As we celebrate our 80th Anniversary, we take a look back at how to school was all the way back in the 1940's.
The original school first opened in January 1942, marking the culmination of several years of planning by the Joseph Rowntree Village Trust and North Riding County Council.
This rare colour film, shot by the first head teacher Mr Edward Lightowler, depicts daily life at the school during its early years in the 1940's. True to the school's motto Mente Manuque, 'with mind and hand', the children engaged in a wide range of practical activities as well as classroom based lesson.
