AUDITION INFORMATION for
Beauty and the Beast Jr
Monday, September 15 and Tuesday, September 16 after school (3:15-5:30) in Room 204 (choir room).
You only need to come about 5 minutes before your audition time and you can leave when your audition is complete.
Sign up online for an audition time and list all conflicts on the online audition form. Prepare a one-minute monologue (performed from memory) and a one-minute excerpt from a musical theatre piece (also performed from memory). You will need an audition accompaniment track with NO vocals to sing along to. We will provide a speaker and cable to connect your phone or Chromebook. The internet connection and cell service are usually really bad for personal phones in the choir room, so we suggest using your Chromebook or downloading the track. Auditions will be timed, so please follow the one-minute time limit for each part. You should slate (introduce yourself) at the beginning of the audition. The slate is NOT included in the time limit for the audition. Your audition will be recorded for review by the audition panel.
The dance audition, which is required if you make callbacks, will be after school on Wednesday, September 17 at 3:15 in the kiva. You do not need to learn a dance in advance, but come prepared to move and to learn a dance and perform it in small groups.
Scripts are available for checkout from Mr. Kidd starting Monday, August 25th. You may check out a script before school, during class, or after school and should return it within two days. All scripts must be turned in by the end of the day on Friday, September 12th.
Dance callbacks are Wednesday, September 17th at 3:15 in the Kiva (3:15-5:00), and Thursday, September 18th in the Choir Room (3:15-5:00).
The callback list will be posted on Wednesday morning, September 17th.
If you are on the callback list you are expected to be at callbacks the full time (3:15-5:00) on both Wednesday and Thursday. If you cannot be at callbacks you may not be cast in the show.
Wednesday (Dance callbacks): You do not need to learn a dance in advance, but come prepared to move and to learn a dance and perform it in small groups.
Thursday (Reading/Singing callbacks): Readings from the script (individual, in pairs, or groups), singing, and vocal range checks.
Rehearsals are after school (3:15-5:30) Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays starting September 22nd and continuing up until December 3rd (final dress rehearsal). No rehearsal on Fridays, during Parent Conferences, Fall Break, or other days when there is no school. There IS a performance on Friday, December 5th. If you want to be in the show, having NO (or very minimal) conflicts is essential. CLICK HERE to see the full rehearsal and performance schedule.
Being available for all rehearsals and performances is a major consideration in the audition process. The simple answer is yes, you need to be at all rehearsals for which you are called. "Called" means that you are scheduled to be there. There may be some rehearsals when we are practicing scenes your character is not in, and you wouldn't have to be at those, but we won't know who is playing which part until after auditions are complete, so it's impossible to say which (very) few rehearsal dates you might not need to attend. Please be honest about your conflicts. We understand that people want to be involved. We also have to prepare a quality show in a short amount of time. It is difficult to rehearse with people missing, coming late, or leaving rehearsal early as it affects the entire cast. People are missing essential information that can affect the quality of the performance and the safety of the cast.
The short answer is probably not. Rehearsals aren't for learning your individual parts, they are for working as a group. It's hard to get the groupings set for blocking and choreography when people are missing. If you have one or two isolated conflicts, that is usually OK, but a regular weekly conflict is more likely to be an issue (dance class, piano lesson, other rehearsals, etc.). This is a short-term commitment, but a big commitment, so please consider carefully if you can make the commitment. CLICK HERE to see the full rehearsal and performance schedule.
December 4th, and 5th at 7 PM and December 6th at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
It depends how many people audition. Some or all lead roles may be double cast at the discretion of the audition committee.
